Daily video assingments

With the changing newspaper landscape, photographers are being asked more and more regularly to produce video pieces for the web. Sometimes these take the form of longer, more developed and produced video pieces. More frequently, they are projects that need to be turned around in day. These can pose a challenge. It is hard to take stills and video at the same time. Inevitably, when you’re shooting video, you’ll miss a great opportunity for a still. In contrast, when you’re […]

A return to Fight College

Every now and then, I have an assignment at a place with absolutely gorgeous light. That is the case with Fight College, a boxing gym in Rockford. I first wen to the gym in April of 2013 shortly after they opened and I immediately noticed the light. Everything is in one big rectangular room. One of the short walls is completely windows. Because of the relatively small venue, tickets to the event sold out almost immediately. It was a full house. I had the difficult juggling act of shooting stills while simultaneously […]

Multimedia – New responsibilities for photojournalists

There are many videos linked in this post. All of them are in HD and will take some time to load. If the video is laggy, pause it and let it load before you try and watch it. They are all worth the wait to watch. A few months ago, multimedia photojournalism was revolutionized. Canon released the first ever full 1080P HD video camera that was integrated into a DSLR (digital single lens reflex) body – the EOS 5D Mark […]
