Gridiron 2014: How the shots were made

High school football season is upon us once again. While that means we get busier on Friday nights, it also means that another Rockford Register Star Gridiron season preview section is in the books. Last year, we played with fire and light. This year, we took things to new depths (pardon the pun). Since the beginning of 2014, the photo staff and sports staff has been collaborating on what to do for this year’s Gridiron section. We had an excellent idea. […]

Favorites of 2012

It’s that time again. Time to look back on a years worth of work to find the best of the best. It’s easier said than done. Last year, I mentioned that photographers can get attached to an image because of the back story. Some images might be technologically challenging to make. The start/finish line was in […]

Even with that said, phones with cameras were treated and sold like luxury items. Pretty quickly, it seemed that it became difficult to buy a phone without a camera. I had one on mine for […]

A few fun frames

If you’ve spent any time around me while I’m looking at my work, you know I’m a self loathing photographer. It’s rare that I get excited about making an image. I usually see all the flaws in my work. Recently, I’ve made a few frames that I enjoyed. There was something that made them stand out to me. And for the most part, the flaws that I saw were tolerable. The first was a basketball portrait. The player, Hunter Hill of […]
