Hoops wrecking crew

I’ve been part of many creative sports portrait shoots. My football portraiture pushed boundaries and set new standards and expectations for my paper. Shortly after moving to Florida and starting my career with The Villages Daily Sun, I was asked to do an over-the-top portrait shoot for our local high school basketball teams. The photo team worked with the sports department and our executive editor to brainstorm the theme. It didn’t take long for us to land on the theme: The […]

Favorites from the last few months

Maybe I’ve been slacking with keeping my blog up to date or maybe I’ve been super busy. I’ll chalk it up to a little of both. I’ll start with some of my favorite frames from April. As the school year was winding down, I shot a ton of sports. But I also had a few non sports assignments that yielded some nice images. I’ll start with church photos. Illinois Associated Press Media Editors 2016 contest

I also took a first place award for my sports feature photo of a volleyball player reacting after a point. The full list of contest winners can be […]

Going into last week, our paper still had four local basketball teams in contention. And then we didn’t. Our basketball season crashed to a halt as three of the four teams lost on Tuesday night in sectional and supersectional matchups. The fourth team followed suit on Wednesday. They were all heartbreaking games that went right to the wire. On […]

Images from January 2017

January was a whirlwind. It was a very busy month for me, covering a wide variety of assignments. The month started off with a few very sad assignments. At the end of 2016, our community experienced a lot of loss. On Christmas eve, a house fire killed three kids. There were also two separate shootings that took the lives of teenagers. Their funerals were held at the beginning of 2017. First was the funeral for Lavontay Allen who was shot and […]
