Favorites of 2013

With 2013 in the past, it’s once again time to share some of my favorite images from the year. As always, it’s easy for photographers to get attached to their images for a variety of reasons. Some images may have been technically challenging to create and required significant planning and anticipation. Others simply captured an excellent moment. My first round of edits left me with near 100 images. I was able to whittle it down to 45 that I really enjoyed […]

Gridiron Preview 2013: How the shots were made

August was a busy month for photographers at the Rockford Register Star. We were brainstorming and shooting our annual Gridiron preview section. This special section releases on the day of the first high school game each season. Each team in the NIC-10 conference has a page featuring a portrait, a story and other related information. While we’re not quite to winter, the weather has been great as of recent. In fact, all of this year’s football games have been in great weather. Not as much as a drop of rain. Yesterday before I went to shoot the sectional championship football game between the Hagerstown Tigers and the Knightstown […]

Friday night football

Football season is in full swing. By game time these last few Friday nights, the temperature is hovering in the low 60s. I’m loving every minute of it. This last weekend, one of our county schools, Knightstown, was facing their rival of Eastern Hancock. It was a blow-out in Knightstown’s favor. 41-6. As the season goes on, the sun is setting earlier and earlier which means I continue to crank up the ISO. Cropping in from my 200mm starts to […]
