Gridiron 2019: The result of teamwork

We always try to one up ourselves when it comes to the highly conceptualized football preview tabs. Finishing these projects is always a display of teamwork. This year was no different. What was different was my role. I took a leadership role on the project this year. More of an artistic director so to speak. I used the opportunity to continue training one of my colleges on the complexity of lighting, framing and posing. This year’s theme was gold rush […]

Hoops wrecking crew

I’ve been part of many creative sports portrait shoots. My football portraiture pushed boundaries and set new standards and expectations for my paper. Shortly after moving to Florida and starting my career with The Villages Daily Sun, I was asked to do an over-the-top portrait shoot for our local high school basketball teams. The Rockford Register Star competes in Division III with the largest papers in the state. I took third place in the feature photo category for my back to school photo. I also took a first place award for my sports feature photo of a volleyball player reacting after a point. The full list of contest winners can be […]

Basketball: That’s a wrap!

March. Basketball tournament season. And it was a good one! The month started out with a couple really exciting regional games. Going into last week, our paper still had four local basketball teams in contention. And then we didn’t. Our basketball season crashed to a halt as three of the four teams lost on Tuesday night in sectional and supersectional matchups. The fourth team followed suit on Wednesday. They were all heartbreaking games that went right to the wire. On […]
