Favorites from the last few months

Maybe I’ve been slacking with keeping my blog up to date or maybe I’ve been super busy. I’ll chalk it up to a little of both. I’ll start with some of my favorite frames from April. As the school year was winding down, I shot a ton of sports. But I also had a few non sports assignments that yielded some nice images. I’ll start with church photos. I’ve covered a lot of services around Easter. However, this was the […]

Recent spot news

It tends to be that the colder months are the quieter months when it comes to spot news. However, this past December and January kept me busy. Fires. Accidents. Murders. The whole lot. Here is a take of some of what I was chasing these last two months. December started off with an accident between a freight train and a semi truck. 2013 Illinois Press Association awards

First responders and mans best friend

On Sunday, I went out to a fire at an apartment complex on Rockford’s southeast side. When I arrived, I saw something that was new to me. A dog was laying in the parking lot under blankets breathing through an oxygen mask. A firefighter came over to adjust the mask. He also tried to comfort the dog. No people were injured in the fire but one dog did die. The pictured dog is reportedly recovering well.

The new job: Rockford

I’ve just about rounded out my first month at the Rockford Register Star in Rockford, Ill. This month has flown by. I love that I’m busy shooting again. The first day on the job was a little sluggish. Paperwork. And lots of it. That is until a vehicle rolled over on a snow-covered bypass. I rushed out there and got photos of the firefighters using the jaws of life to free the man stuck inside. And yes, that is snow […]
